Advancements in Science and Technology!
Through out the ages, there have been many advances, however the advances in this day and age will result in much larger changes, mostly for the better, in day to day life for Texans (and everyone).
Here I will look into brilliant advancements in science that are occurring now or that may occur soon into the future!

Solar CarsSolar Cars are already here and you will likely own one in the near future. There are solar race cars are specifically designed to race against each other every other year by different teams (Ex: The Stanford Solar Car Project, a student run organization) at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. This means that the technology is certainly there and will only get cheaper over time. However, solar race cars are not the only solar cars that have been made. As you saw in the picture above, the Stella Lux ,created by the Eindhoven solar team, is designed to be a family car that is also energy positive. Energy positive means that it creates more electricity than it consumes, and so it can still run even during the night.
Affect on Texas and Texans: Texans in the future will be able to drive cars on clean energy and therefore wont be polluting the air or environment around them. This would therefore make the environment of Texas healthier and safer to live in. (Social)(Unit Question #1 and #2) |
Multipurpose RobotsMultipurpose robots are already here and are likely going to be taking the places of workers in boring, monotonous jobs. Robots can be much cheaper and efficient than human workers. Examples of these robots would be Baxter by Rethink Robotics that can do many tasks and can provide a large advantage over other businesses too. Considering the rate at which we have been advancing in robotics and programming, it is very possible that we will have robots that can do even more difficult tasks or tasks that we thought only humans could do, and this is just the start of tremendous potential.
Affect on Texas and Texans: Multipurpose robots such as Baxter (In the picture above) will affect the lives of many Texans in the fact that jobs that include more monotonous work can be replaced as they are more cheap, efficient, and overall cost effective than regular workers. These robots will greatly help businesses complete more dangerous and boring jobs rather than have workers and employees do them. If robots like Baxter become cheap enough, they can even change how we live by doing chores around the house that humans would rather not. (Economic)(Unit Question #1 and #2) |
NASA's Orion Program NASA's Orion program could advance and change our world tremendously. The whole project and deadline of getting to Mars around 2035-2040 gives a reason to see how to make it possible for humans to live there and allowing us to find the technology and methods to allow that. If the first trip to Mars goes over well, it will open up a lot more possibilities such as making a colony on Mars. All in all, the Orion program will be one large step in science and advancements.
Affect on Texas and Texans: The Orion program may affect Texans because if it goes and space colonies are created, it could cause Texans to try and live on Mars. Also, (though technically impossible because you can't own land in outer space) voting and the current value a Texan vote has could change if the U.S. had a state on Mars (it would also affect government).
